MAP 1 - Precision Foot Measurement
INNOVATIVE LAB INSTRUMENTATION
The customer required a device for measuring the flexibility of the first metatarsal of a patient’s foot. Current commercial devices are imprecise, producing various results depending on the user.
Engineering Design & Product Improvement
- A CAD concept was created by the customer based on JAKTOOL’s AHIMS. This concept was then distilled by JAKTOOL to meet production standards.
- CAD was verified and manufacturing specification created for the updated prototype design
- The prototype was manufactured and assembled at JAKTOOL
JAKTOOL supported the design and led the prototype efforts, presenting the customer with a device to measure Mobility and Position of the First Ray (MAP1st). The new device reduces user variability and integrates with electronic data collection systems, enabling the clinician to collect key data quickly, reliably and repeatably. Laboratory testing resulted in the momentum to be awarded an NIH Phase I SBIR, Award # 1R43AR080486-01A1. Our president & CEO, Cristy Richards, served on this award as Chief Engineer and supported this effort as Industry Advisor on the NIH I-Corps program.
